New Delhi: 25 June : – Water ATMs with latest technology are now available on more than 100 railway stations across the country. An official of the railway said today. These ATMs will provide pure water for passengers at a lower cost. Indian Railway Tourism and Catering Corporation (IRCTC) had entered into an agreement with Water Technology-affiliated ‘Swajal’ for the purpose of setting up such water ATMs. These ATMs will provide pure water at 104 railway stations of 14 states. These 104 railway stations have 30 percent big and crowded stations whereas 70 percent are rural stations.
The official said, “This scheme was included in the 2016 central budget and its goal was to create around 40,000 jobs across the country. Water ATMs are beneficial for travelers who can fill water at the station premises and avoid buying expensive packaged water. Also, these ATMs promote the use of destroyed items, which will reduce the use of plastic. ”
These ATMs will have to pay a price of five rupees for a liter of water, while one rupee extra for one cup of plastic will be paid. Passengers can pay via Bhim App or PettyM.
