The Rajasthan government has made a big decision to bring relief from the rising fuel prices. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Sunday announced the reduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) by the state government by 4 percent on petrol and diesel. All the state’s fuel prices have come to the roof. Rajasthan is no exception to that. The price of petrol and diesel at Jaipur is Rs 83.54 and Rs 77.43 a liter respectively.

VAT on the city has been reduced from 26% to 30% and diesel by 18% instead of 18%. With this decision, there will be a deficit of 2 thousand crore in revenue.

Elections to be held this year

At the end of this year assembly elections will be held in four states. This includes Rajasthan. In addition, elections will be held in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram too. The central government is also likely to provide some relief to the state assembly by keeping it in view. Fuel tariff cuts can be done till elections in this state.

Prior to the Karnataka elections, there was no change for 20 days in petrol and diesel rates. Petrol price was increased by 4 rupees immediately after the polling on May 12. Earlier, there was no change in petrol and diesel rates between 16 January and 1 April. There were elections in Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Manipur.
