05th Aug :- Union Finance Minister Nitin Gadkari has clarified that the central government has no plans to give reservation on economic criteria. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had proposed that the poor should get a reservation in view of the ongoing Maratha reservation agitation. But after the debate on this, Gadkari has clarified on Twitter.
My attention has been drawn to certain media reports attributed to me. There is absolutely no thinking at the central government to change the reservation criteria from castes to economic conditions.

Speaking at Aurangabad, Gadkari said that “should be considered for reservation of any caste person belonging to the caste community,” he said. Asking Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to give a reservation, Gadkari said that there is a need to stop politics on caste, creed, religion and language, considering education, social and economic backwardness. Also, reservations for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes on social and educational criteria have been applied in the country. The Supreme Court has set a limit of 50 per cent. If the limit is to be increased and if you want to give Maratha reservation, then the incident will have to be amended.
