Olympic silver medalist Sindhu defeated Fitranian of Indonesia 21-14, 21-9. The 23-year-old Indian, who won silver medal last year, got the first round. He will clash with Sung J Hyun of Korea in the next round, who is the bronze medalist in the 2015 World Championships.
Fifth seed Srikanth beat Pablo Abian of Spain 21-15, 12-21, 21-14 in a match that lasted three games. Srikanth, who won four titles last year, will now face Darren Lee of Malaysia, who won the French Open Super Series in 2012.
Bisai Praneeth has also reached the next round. He beat Louis Enrique Penalvar of Spain 21-18, 21-11. Now they have to face Denmark’s Hans Christian Solberg Vittings.
In another match, Prannoy started well, but he could not maintain it, and lost to world number 39 crossover 21-8, 16-21, 15-21.
