The Election Commission has written a letter to all the states and union territories and has been asked to delete the NOTA option from the Rajya Sabha and the Vidhan Parishad elections. After the Supreme Court’s decision, the Election Commission has given this order.
On August 21, the Supreme Court said that the option of ‘nota’ should be removed for the Rajya Sabha elections. The Rajya Sabha election process is complicated, in which the Supreme Court has expressed its opinion that the use of ‘nota’ will increase the complexity.
The Election Commission has said in its order that the ‘Nota’ option will not be printed in the Rajya Sabha and the Vidhan Parishad elections ballot papers. However, the option of ‘nota’ will remain in the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections. The Supreme Court had on August 21 held that opinion can be used only when the general public participates in the voting process.
