Major Ramesh Upadhyay, accused in the 2008 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case, will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections of 2019. The ANI has given the ticket to the Hindu Mahasabha.

According to the media reports, Major Ramesh Upadhyay will contest the election of Hindu Mahasabha ticket from Jadhavpur Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal. Last year, the Bombay High Court had granted bail to Major (retired) Ramesh Upadhyay, accused in the Malegaon blast case, on a bail bond of one lakh rupees. Major Ramesh Upadhyay, the bail granted to Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Col Purohit, is the fifth accused.
On September 29, 2008, in Malegaon, a bomb blast outside a mosque. The blast was carried out by keeping a bicycle in a bicycle. Six people were killed in the explosion. More than a hundred were injured. In this case, the anti-terrorism squad had arrested 12 persons, including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Col Purohit, accusing the Hindutva organizations being involved in the blast.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which investigated this case, said there was no concrete evidence against five people. The NIA had also asked the court to remove the mugs of other accused including the Colonel. About four thousand water chargesheets were filed in this case. The investigations were carried out in the telephone conversation between Purohit and Upadhyay.
