11 July :- The central government approved the principles of net neutrality on Wednesday, so that there will be no discrimination against Internet users in India and there will be no restrictions on internet usage. For many years, net nutrality issues in India were in discussion. The Telecom Commission has approved the recommendations of TRAI’s Net Nutrition Committee. As such, Internet service providers will no longer be able to discriminate between the speed and content of the Internet.

Troy had recommended in November 2017 not to encroach on equality of access to the Internet. The Internet was an open media and Troy had no role to play in any discrimination. TRAI sent its recommendations to the Ministry of Information Technology. TRAIN has excluded some of its services, just like telemedicine. It is a new area and the government thinks that there is need of internet speed.

It is the principle of net neutrality that any person, organization or company imposing fee for using the internet will be treated equally by all parties without prejudice.

Facebook was free to provide free internet service for some people through free basics but the decision was made in favor of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Net Neutrality had expressed dissatisfaction with Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s decision. Explaining that there should not be any difference in Internet usage rates, TRAI had put a stop to Facebook’s Facebook users pushing the principle of Internet equity under the name ‘Free Basics’.
