In November 2016, the University Grants Commission sent letters to the Vice Chancellors of all the universities of the country. The UGC had instructed universities to ban junk food in their premises.
Now the UGC has again issued a notice to all the Universities. The notice said that the instructions given in November 2016 should be implemented. The ban on junk food will reduce the grossness of students and reduce the risk of health risks, the letter said.
A public awareness campaign will be organized for students and college professors and employees. The UGC also said that counseling should be set up to provide information about good diet, exercise and good habits. There are 40 central universities across the country and there are hundreds of colleges affiliated to them.
