Union Ministry of Environment has approved a package of Rs 4,500 crore for the sugar industry. This decision will lead to increase in sugar production and a large number of sugar exports will be done. Specially, subsidies will be given to sugar factories for sugar export. For the year 2018-19, 5 million tonnes of sugar will be provided to the millers. The subsidy will be given for the cost of Rs 13.88 per quintal.
The Finance Ministry has approved the proposal of Food Supply Department in the meeting of the Union Cabinet. There was a demand to increase the sugar production in the country and subsidy for the collection of outstanding amount of Rs 13,000 crores of sugar factories. On the backdrop of the upcoming 2019 elections and assembly elections in some states, the government has appealed to sugar growers and sugar-entrepreneurs. Because, this issue can be introduced in the face of these elections. In June this year, Rs. 8,500 crores package was provided. After that, it was announced that this is the second largest package this year. Meanwhile, the most outstanding in the outstanding amount of Rs. 13,000 crores of sugar factories is the factories of Uttar Pradesh. The farmers’ debt of Rs 9817 crores has remained outstanding due to the factories.
