Senior Communist leader and former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee has also been disfigured and he has been put on artificial respiration. Chatterjee has been suffering from kidney disease for the past few days. However, after the condition got worse, he was admitted to the hospital on August 10.

In June this year, Somnath Chatterjee was admitted to Belleview Hospital in Kolkata due to a stroke attack (cerebral attack). In 2014 too, they had suffered similar problems.
They are among the major leaders of the Communist Party of India. He is the President of the Lok Sabha, which is the highest constitutional post in the parliamentary system. In the 14th Lok Sabha, he was elected from Bolpur constituency in West Bengal. Somnath Chatterjee is the son of famous lawyer and founder president of Hindu Mahasabha Nirmal Chandra Chatterjee.
Chatterjee recently criticized the State Election Commission for the Panchayat elections. He said that during his long political career, he did not see such violence in the West Bengal elections. Chatterjee, ten times represented in the Lok Sabha, accepted membership in Marxist Communist Party in 1968. In 1971, he was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time.
