Former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee passed away, President and Prime Minister expressed his condolence

Former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee has passed away. He was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata due to kidney disease, where he was kept on the ventilator.

After being critical, he was admitted to the Kolkata hospital on August 10. Former CPI (M) leader Somnath Chatterjee has been a Lok Sabha MP for 10 times. He was the President of the Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009 in the UPA-led UPA-1 government.

After the UPA-1 government’s withdrawal of support from the party CPM, they were asked to leave the speaker post, but they refused to do so. Because of which he was expelled from the party. Chatterjee was a member of the Central Committee of CPIM, and he is known as Prakash Karat’s hostile opponent.

Leaders have expressed sadness

Congress President Rahul Gandhi, while condoling his death, said that he was an institution and he had immense respect for all MPs from the party line. I have my feelings towards his family in this sad time.

Apart from Rahul, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also expressed grief at the demise of Somnath Chatterjee. Kejriwal said that I am very sad to hear this news. They will always be remembered in the category of the greatest speaker of the Lok Sabha.
