There is a possibility to discuss the Election Commission’s (today) Friday (Friday) on the issue of holding elections in Telangana. Actually, the state cabinet has recommended dissolution of the assembly. A senior official of the commission said that the Election Commission meets to discuss many issues every Tuesday and Friday and in the next meeting, this southern state can raise the issue of holding elections. The official said, “Before the final decision, issues like festivals, examinations and weather conditions will be discussed.” It is worth mentioning that the tenure of Telangana assembly was till June 2019.

Actually, after the Chief Minister’s Chandrasekhar Rao-Nita government recommended dissolution of the assembly in Telangana on Thursday, now all eyes are on Governor ESL Narasimhan. It is expected that he will submit a report to the Center on the political developments of the state. According to officials, hopefully the governor will inform the Election Commission about dissolution of the state assembly and recommend the elections within six months. An official of the Home Ministry said that it is on the Election Commission that it has got assembly elections in four other states along with Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. The official clarified that the Election Commission has to hold elections for six months i.e. the beginning of March.

In its report to the Center, there is a possibility of giving the governor two options. These included Rao as the caretaker Chief Minister and the implementation of President’s rule till the formation of a new government. The official said that after receiving the report of the Governor, the Home Ministry will keep it before the Union Cabinet for consideration and final decision. The Governor has asked Rao and his Council of Ministers to continue working as caretaker government.

It is noteworthy that the TRS government of Telangana, following a major political bidding, on Thursday recommended the dissolution of the state assembly a few months before its scheduled time. TRS hopes that due to the charisma and scattered opposition of party chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, he will come to power for a second time. It is believed that the party wanted to avoid “KCR vs. Modi” competition in the event of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections together.

Meanwhile, Rao announced his candidates for 105 out of the 119 seats of the Legislative Assembly. Speaking to the Congress, the party said that it is the biggest enemy of Telangana. Rao called Congress President Rahul Gandhi “the biggest prankster” of the country. Though he avoided the criticism of the BJP.
