According to an official spokesman, these dope tests will also be done during the recruitment period as well as during the promotion of various stages of the service of the government employees.

While there are 3.5 lakh government employees in Punjab, the DOP test is already compulsory during the recruitment of constable and sub-inspector in the Punjab Police. The dope test in police recruitment is to find out whether the recruitment staff – addicted to morphine, amphetamine, ganja and other restricted drug intake.

It is worth mentioning that in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, it was decided to recommend Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 to recommend the provision of death penalty for smuggling of drugs through amendment. Whose information Capt Amarinder Singh wrote to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh by writing a letter.
