04 July :- The Central Government gives scholarships to higher education in foreign universities by Backward Classes students. The Backward Classes students of Maharashtra are in the forefront of this scholarship. Maharashtra is the champion of this scholarship given to the Backward Classes students by the Central Government. This has been revealed recently due to recent data.
A total of 72 scholarships were announced for the National Overseas Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Castes till February 2018. Of these 40 scholarships were received by the students of Maharashtra. Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh are second in the list, while the students of both the states received six scholarships each.
A total of 108 scholarships were announced in 2016-17. Of these, 53 scholarships were received by the students of Maharashtra. In Uttar Pradesh, five each from Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu received scholarship. Students from other states got scholarships ranging from one to four. Maharashtra also had the foremost three years in the scholarship.
The National Overseas Scholarship Scheme is run by the Ministry of Social Justice. Earlier, there were 30 seats in this scheme. They increased to 60 and in 2014 the seats were increased to 100. There is a lot of awareness about the National Foreign Scholarship Scheme in Maharashtra. It is also one of the reasons for the number of students receiving scholarships from Maharashtra compared to other states.
