Arpinder Singh got the first gold medal in India in the last 48 years in this Asian Games event by jumping 16.77 meters into men’s triple jump (triple jump). After winning a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games 2014, Arpinder, who did not win a medal in any major event, made the best jump in his third attempt. Raslan Kurbanov of Uzbekistan won a bronze with 16.62 meters and silver and Shuo Cao of China won 16.56 meters.

Arpinder, however, performed less than 17.09 meters of his best performance in the season. He had achieved this distance during the national inter-state championship in June, making him number three in the Asian ranking. Arpinder’s best performance is 17.17 meters. He was in fifth place in the 2014 Asian Games.

Prior to India, the last gold medal in Asian Games triumph was won by Mohinder Singh Gill in 1970. In total, this is India’s third gold medal in triple form. Mohinder Singh achieved the gold medal in this competition for the first time in 1958.

Not only that, after the bronze medal of S Balasubramanian in 1982, it is also the first medal in the trio of India’s Asian Games. Another athlete AV Rakesh Babu, who participated in the same competition, reached the sixth place with a jump of 16.40 meters.
