India’s veteran tennis player Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan gave India a gold medal. Bopanna and Sharan pair won gold in the men’s doubles event and won gold medals in their own names. In the title match, Indian pair won the match of Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bubilik and Dennis Yevsev in straight sets by defeating 6-3, 6-4 in just 52 minutes.

Fifth Gold Medal in Asiad Doubles
This is the fifth gold medal for India in the men’s doubles event of tennis in Asian Games. Earlier, India had won gold in 1994, 2002, 2006, 2010. Bopanna won gold medal for the first time in the Asian Games, while Sharon won bronze medal in the men’s doubles event with Yuki Bhambri in 2014. This is India’s first gold in tennis in the current games. Earlier, Somdev Devvarman and Sanam Singh won the bronze medal in doubles at Guangzhou 2010 in Guangzhou. In addition, Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes made their name in the 2002 and 2006 Asian Games. Paes had withdrawn from the Games on the occasion due to not getting his favorite partner this time.

In the first set, the Indian pair started well. They made 3-0 lead against Kazakhstan. Although the rival team made a good comeback and scored 5-3. Bopanna and Sharan duo won the first game with a 6-3 win over the first set. In the second set, Indian pair was seen fighting. After trailing 2-1, Bopanna and Sharan won a game to equalize their score against Kazakhstan’s 3-3.
