On Monday, the TDP government of Andhra Pradesh cut the VAT on petrol and diesel and gave relief of Rs 2 per liter to the public on the day of protest against the rising oil prices on behalf of the opposition on Monday before Mamata. For this, a proposal was passed in the state assembly.
In view of the same assembly elections, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has also decided to reduce the VAT on petrol and diesel by 4%. The government’s decision will provide relief to the public from Rs 2 to Rs 2.50 per liter. Congress-led Punjab and Karnataka coalition government is also considering the reduction of VAT on petrol and diesel.
After the central government is proving to be unable to control the skyrocketing prices of petrol and diesel, state governments are now under pressure to provide relief to the public. The state government can reduce the price of oil by reducing VAT and sales tax.
However, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has refused to do so. State Chief Minister E Palanisamy said that the state government will not reduce sales tax (sales tax). He said that the financial condition of Tamil Nadu is not good and there are many schemes in the state which require money. In such a situation, we are not in a position to reduce sales tax. He said that the central government should reduce excise duty to provide relief to the public.
