22 killed in red alert, rains and landslides in Kerala, 6 teams of NDRF deployed

In Kerala, a huge devastation has been done. In the state this morning, 22 people have died in heavy rain and landslide incidents. The situation in the state has become so alarming that the Kochi airport has to be shut down. Here four teams of NDRF from Chennai have left for Kerala. Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan has convened an emergency meeting. Now the army has been removed from the rescue operation in the state.

At the same time Union Minister KJ Alphonse said that such rain has not happened in the last 50 years. Six teams of NDRF have been deployed in the rescue operation in Kerala.

The water level of the Periyar river has increased

According to Kochi International Airport Limited (CIAL), in view of the rising water level in the Periyar river, the landing of the aircraft was stopped under the danger of submerged in the airport area. Cial is located near the river. However after two hours the air services at the airport were restored again. Kochi International Airport Limited (CIAL) spokesman said that after the improvement of the condition, we are restoring all the services from three to five minutes this afternoon. Due to rain, many trains have also been affected. Railway track has been damaged in many places. Trains on some routes have been canceled. At the same time, after the water level of a canal near Kochi airport, Ernakulam district administration reviewed the status of the airport. This decision has been taken when four doors of the Eidamalar dam were opened in the morning to release additional water. A door of Idukki Dam has also been partly opened to investigate. Due to the opening of the dam’s doors, the water level of the Periyar river has increased.

5 people die of a family

According to the State Emergency Operation Center, 11 people in Idukki, 5 in Malapuram, 1 in Kozhikode, 3 in Wayanad and 2 in Kannaur have died. Five people from the same family died in Adimali town of Idukki. Here the police and the locals pulled out two people alive from the rubble.

Admin on High Alert

Here, about 600 cusecs of water was released from Indamiar dam this morning, which reached the water level of 169.95 meters. The water level was 2,398 feet in the Idukki dam till 8 o’clock in this morning, which was 50 feet more than the full level of the reservoir. Administration is kept on high alert.

Due to the rains, educational institutions in Idukki, Kollam and some other districts have been discharged today. Idukki’s electric minister MM Mani said that it was very bad. I visited the affected areas and on Thursday morning the Isamalaya dam was opened. We will also open a door of the Idukki Dam. Earlier it was opened in 1992 by the Idukki Dam.
