The couple’s life of inter-caste or inter-married couples is often at risk like ‘Sairat’. The Maharashtra government is in the process of enacting new legislation to provide security to such couples.
Maharashtra’s Social Justice Minister Rajkumar Badole has informed about the Vidarbha. Young people who are married outside caste and creed have to face the consequences of social boycott or honor killings. The state government is trying to reduce the problems of such couples and provide them social security.
Couples with inter or ethnic marriages will not be deprived of any benefit. Errors in the inter-marriages special Marriage Act will be improved.
A committee will be set up to draft a new law. The draft will be prepared in two to five months. Committee Head C. S. Thul has written a letter to all the District Superintendents of Police. Letters have been given to inform about the complaints related to inter-caste or intermarriage couples in their respective districts.
Specifically, if the girl from an interracial or inter-married couple is from a backward class, and the boy is from the general category, then their parents do not get the benefit given to the backward class. However, it will be looked after in the new law.
